Center for Language Engineering (CLE) is the first Advanced Technology Center at Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer Science, University of Engineering and Technology Lahore. CLE is primarily working in the areas of Computational Linguistics in Pakistan and developing Asia.

Research based opportunities are available for motivated candidates and students in Innovation Challenge Fund & Action Research (ICF&AR) under Subnational Governance Programme (SNG) Project titled as "Expanding E-Khidmat Center's Services and Delivery to Broader Citizen Base Using Intelligent Urdu Language Technology".

App Designer

  • Portfolio of design projects
  • Knowledge of tools (InVision Studio, Axure or Adobe XD)
  • Up-to-date knowledge of design software like Adobe illustrator and Photoshop
  • Ongoing-skills Development – Researching user and fronted development trends/techniques

  • BS/MS in CS/CE/EE


  • B. Sc/MS degree in CS/CE/EE
  • Excellent software development skills in HTML, CSS, jQuery and/or Java Script

Business Development Intern

  • Identifies opportunities of business development by creating industry liaison
  • Responsible for outreach of CLE’s application and services.
  • Responsible for showcasing research at relevant events, in publications, and creating announcements
  • Preference will be given to those candidates who has good communication and creative report writing skills.

  • BBA/MBA in Marketing or equivalent
  • Good time-management skills
  • Excellent Communication, writing and negotiation skills


  • Effectively communicate in and across teams and managers
  • MBA in Business Administration spec. Marketing/Sales

Research Officers
(Technical)

  • Designing and development of NLP applications
  • Devising robust algorithms for efficient NLP engines
  • Development and processing of text, document image and speech data
  • Extension/Customization of Open Source Software (OSS) frameworks and toolkits

  • BS/MS in CS/CE/EE


  • MS/PhD degree in CS/CE/EE
  • Excellent software development skills in C++, python and/or Java
  • Studied courses e.g. Computational Linguistics/Speech Processing/Signal Processing/Image Processing/Machine Learning
  • Doing FYP in Image processing/Speech Processing/Signal Processing

Research Officers
(Linguistics)

  • Designing and development of linguistic resources
  • Designing, collection and annotation of text, speech or image corpora
  • R&D in the area of computational linguistics

  • MS in Applied Linguistics
  • Students enrolled in MS Applied Linguistics can also apply


  • PhD students enrolled in Applied Linguistics
  • Studied courses e.g. Computational Linguistics/ Speech Processing/ Phonetics & Phonology/ Semantics/ Morphology & Syntax

Research Officers
(Social Scientist)

Research officers are required to work on a project at CLE. Key responsibilities will include the following:
  • Survey Conduction
  • Data Collection
  • Data Analysis using SPSS or other Statistical Packages
  • Research Reporting

The candidate must have at least the following qualification:
  • M.Phil. in Sociology or related fields
  • Excellent oral, written communication and presentation skills with research publication record
  • Excellent knowledge of SPSS


  • Well-versed in applied research methodology, gender, sociology of development, local language computing and its social implications
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate existing research and provide appropriate solution to the problem within time frame

Annotation Intern

Key responsibilities will include the following:
  • Data Annotation and Verification

The candidate must have at least the following qualification:
  • The candidate must be graduated or enrolled in any graduate program.


  • Good in MS office and file handling
  • Have fast typing speed
  • Good analytical skills
  • Organized, self-reliant and punctual
  • Have the ability to meet tight deadlines

Research Intern

  • Designing and development of NLP applications
  • Devising robust algorithms for efficient NLP engines
  • Development and processing of text, document image and speech data
  • Extension/Customization of Open Source Software (OSS) frameworks and toolkits

The candidate must have at least the following qualification:
  • BS degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering/Electrical Engineering
  • Final year students can also apply
  • Minimum CGPA 3 or above


  • Excellent software development skills in C++ and/or Java
  • Studied courses e.g. Computational Linguistics/Speech Processing/Signal Processing/Image Processing/Machine Learning
