This file specifies how font and language support for Urdu can be installed in Win XP. INSTALLING FONT: There are two ways of installing a font. METHOD 1 1. Go to start menu and click run 2. Type ‘fonts’ in the run dialogue box and press ok button. 3. Copy the Nafees Naskh font and place/paste it into fonts folder. METHOD 2 1. Go to start menu and click Control Panel. 2. Double click on the ‘Fonts’ folder. If ‘Fonts’ folder is NOT THERE, click on ‘Switch to Classic View’ on the top left side of the screen. Now double click on the ‘Fonts’ folder. 3. Click on ‘File’ on top left of screen and select install new font option. Select path for font file through the add font dialog. INSTALLING SYSTEM SUPPORT FOR URDU: This procedure applies only if you are running a non-Arabic version of Microsoft Windows XP. 1. Go to start menu and click Control Panel. 2. Double-click on the ‘Regional and Language Options’ icon. If ‘Regional and Language Options’ icon is NOT THERE then first click on ‘Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options’ icon and then click ‘Region and language Options’. 3. Click on ‘Languages’ 4. Select the check box next to the Install files for complex script and write to left languages (the setup may ask for win XP installation CD and after installation your window will be restart). SET KEYBOARD LAYOUT FOR SPECIFIC LANGUAGE 1. Go to start menu and click Control Panel. 2. Double-click on the ‘Regional and Language Options’ icon. If ‘Regional and Language Options’ icon is NOT THERE then first click on ‘Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options’ icon and then click ‘Region and language Options’. 3. Click on ‘Languages’ 4. Click the Details button. 5. Click the Add… Button. 6. Select the Input language as Urdu and click Ok 7. The keyboard language you selected appears in the language bar at the Top Right of the screen. Switch keyboard layouts Do one of the following: If the Language bar is visible (at the top right of the screen) • On the Language bar, click the keyboard layout indicator, and then click the layout you want. The letters on the indicator change to reflect the language of the keyboard. If the Language bar is not visible • On the Microsoft Windows taskbar, click the keyboard layout indicator, and then click the layout you want. The letters on the indicator change to reflect the language of the keyboard to be Arabic. To access the onscreen key board layout Go to Windows start menu -> all programs -> accessories -> accessibility -> on-screen keyboard
